    Wayne L. Miles, 82, of Highland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Highland Healthcare Center, with his wife by his side.

    Wayne was born, August 31, 1939, in Vandalia, IL, to Earl and Bernice (nee Gillespie) Miles.  He married Ruth Smith on January 3, 1957, in Ferguson, MO; and earlier this year, they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

    Wayne was a former Worshipful Master of the Marine Masonic Lodge, and member of the Highland Masonic lodge. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, the Ainad Shriner’s and Grantfork United Church of Christ.

    Wayne grew up and went to school in Greenville, IL, later moving to Troy, and then to Highland in 1993.  He spent his career as an owner/operator Truck Driver.  Wayne raced stock cars in the early 60’s at the Highland Speedway, being both an owner and a racecar driver.  He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and accomplished riding a motorcycle in all 50 states throughout the years.  An avid woodworker, Wayne created many items for family and friends.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bernice Miles; brother, Ulysses Miles, in infancy; niece, Tamie Miles.

    Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth Miles, Highland, IL; children, Sandy (Pete) Nissen, Highland, IL, Rick (Shari) Miles, Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Tony (Lora) Miles, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Tyler Miles, Chase Miles, and Maci Miles; brother, Glen (Elizabeth) Miles; niece, Rhonda Brendel, nephews, Kurt Gruner and Karl Gruner.

    Memorial donations may be made to Burgess Cemetery Association or Madison Co. Humane Society.

    Memorial Visitation: Monday, May 2, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Memorial Service: Monday, May 2, 2022, 4:00 pm, Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Clergy: Rev. Tim Darmour-Paul, Pastor, Grantfork United Church of Christ.

    Interment: at a later date

    Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Ruth and family. Dave and I knew Wayne for quite a few years during your time at Whidden MHP in Frostproof, Florida. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. We will always remember the good times we had.
