    • Full Obituary

Mary Ann Carrillon, 93, of Highland, IL, passed away, Friday, December 31, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.

Mary Ann was born July 11, 1928, to Elmer and Agnes (nee Goestenkors) Frey, in Helvetia Township, the fifth of eight children.  She married Walter Carrillon on July 17, 1946, at St. Paul Catholic Church, in Highland, IL.

Mary Ann was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and a former member of St. Anne Altar Society.

She worked at the Shoe factory and then the nursery at St. Joseph Hospital, before starting her own day care in her home, which she ran for 40 years.  She loved taking care of her babies, and was happiest with a baby in her arms, and kids by her side. Her greatest accomplishment in her many years, was getting 21 kids asleep for 1 ½ hours at the same time; her greatest disappointment was never getting to take care of a set of twins.  She babysat for multiple generations, leaving a legacy of her own with many of her families.  Mary Ann led a quiet and private life but was always there to help.   Until the age of 93, you could often see her working at Broadway Battery & Tire every Thursday.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Agnes Frey; husband, Walter Carrillon; sons-in-law, Denis Bellm and Rick Bloemker; siblings, Cyril Frey, Elmer “Butz” Frey, Evelyn Schmitt, Joseph Frey, Alice Carrillon; grandson-in-law, Wade Battle.

Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Shirley Bellm and Marilyn Bloemker, both of Highland, IL; grandchildren, Amy (Todd) Going, Marcie (Bob) Wille, Meredith Battle, Jay (Jill) Bloemker, Eric (Stephani) Bellm; great grandchildren, Nicolas, Alic, Ben, & Adrian Wille, Lauren, Morgan, & Isaac Going, Madison Isaak, Mikayla & Kylie Bloemker, and Connor Bellm; sisters, Rita Gilomen and Rosemary Kloss; special niece, Diane Carrillon; many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Capital Campaign, or HART (Highland Area Resource Team).

      Shirley, Marilyn, and Diane
So sorry to learn of the passing of Mary Ann. What a great, long, happy life she led. I was fortunate and proud to be one of her babies. Many years later, I can still remember sitting outside on the steps “teasing her hair”, and the one time I swatted the goldfish out of the fish tank, and couldn’t pick it up to put it back in the tank. I’m guessing the fish didn’t make it. There were times when Mom showed up after work that I really didn’t want to leave. Whatever Mary Ann was charging back in the day to look after me, couldn’t have been enough to watch me. What a wonderful, caring Lady she was. Godspeed. Mary Ann, worlds greatest babysitter.

Grandma Mary Ann, you will be sorely missed. We know you’ve wanted to join hubby Walter for MANY years, so we’re glad your wishes have finally come through. I enjoyed the many stories I heard from Mikayla and Kylie and I know their hearts are broken due to your departure. But we all know you’ve finally gotten the wish you soooo very much waited for. RIP Mary Ann!

So very sorry for your loss. She was definitely one to remember. So many kids lives she effected and their families in a positive way. Always knew they were being taken care of and made to mind. Prayers to you all.
