  • Full Obituary

Wilma “Ruth” Doty, 100 of Albion, IL died on March 12, 2025 at her home.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1924 in Albion, IL to William and Idella May (Severns) Shaw. The eighth child of ten, she was the last remaining of her siblings. Ruth had six brothers: Kenneth, Joseph, Ellis, Lyman, Eugene, and Thomas (Jack) Shaw. Her three sisters were Kathleen Bell, Jessie Schroeder, and Barbara Ann Rodgers.

She married Arthur Sullivan “Bill” Doty on Nov. 07, 1947. They had two daughters, Lynette Ann Denney-Dalton and Jill Alaine Gill. Arthur and Lynette proceeded her in death. She is survived by Jill Alaine (Mike) Gill and 3 grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Denney, Heather Laine Gill, and Heath Collin (Jackie) Gill.

Ruth was a graduate of Albion High School in 1943. In high school she worked as the head teller at the movie theater in Albion where they had several shows weekly. During World War II, she worked in a local factory on radio parts. Ruth later worked for several years at City Hall doing all the billing and collections for the Water Department. Next, she was employed at Champion Laboratories on the line but later in the shipping department office. She often spoke about enjoying her last job as a dispatcher at the Sheriff's Department.

Ruth Doty was a “people person.” Ruth was an active member in the First Baptist Church in Albion, IL. During her time there, she belonged to the Willing Workers and taught Sunday School. When she was younger, she bowled on a league. She would laugh about the only prize she ever won which was 50lbs of laundry soap in a bowling competition. She considered herself a very average bowler, but was only lucky that day. For many years, she organized the Shaw Family Reunion. Maintaining close connections with all of them was especially important to her. Church outings and trips with family members were also cherished favorites.

Ruth has experienced 100 years of history. Now, she can reunite with all the family and friends that have gone before her.

Services will be held at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in Albion, IL on Monday, March 17, 2025. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until the time of service at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery, Albion, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Albion, IL.
