    William L. “Bill” Swofford, Jr., 86, died Friday, April 8, 2011 at Carlyle Health Care Center, Carlyle, IL.

    Bill was born March 28, 1925 to William L. and Stella (nee Zweck) Swofford, Sr. at home in Pocahontas, IL.  On August 13, 1950 he married Joan Sugg at Evangelical Church in Grantfork, IL.

    After high school, Bill entered the Navy and served his country during World War II.  After the war he started his career as a carpenter that lasted 60 years.  He loved woodworking.  He loved the American Legion since he was a Charter Member of the Pocahontas chapter.

    He is survived by his wife Joan Swofford, Pocahontas, IL; 3 daughters, Sue (Randy) Keeling, Pocahontas, IL, Kay (Gary) Walker, Pocahontas, IL, Kim (Martin) Poleski, Ballwin, MO; 5 grandchildren, Jeremiah Keeling, Christopher (Angela) Walker, Chad Walker, Katelyn Willman, Mitchell Willman; 1 brother, Robert (Donna) Swofford; nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, William L. and Stella (nee Zweck) Swofford; 2 sisters, Lucille Peck, Marie Savage; 1 nephew, Tommy Swofford.

    Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, Pocahontas, IL.
