Wilfred A. Holzinger, Sr., 81, Highland, IL, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at his residence with his family by his side.

He graduated from St. Jacob High School in 1956, and from 1956-1960, he served in the Navy on the Franklin D. Roosevelt aircraft carrier and was stationed in Pensacola, FL.

He was a member of the Highland Rotary Club and Greater Gateway Board of Realtors.

He met his wife when they both worked for Demoulin Brothers. From there, he went on to start Holzinger Real Estate in 1968, and had offices in Highland, Greenville, Litchfield, Staunton, Troy, Trenton, and New Baden. Since 2000, he and his wife have been working at Coldwell Banker Brown in Highland, where he was known as "the dinosaur" to his work cohorts.  He loved spending time with his wonderful family and vacationing in Florida.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Sue Holzinger, Highland, IL; daughter, Paula (Brad) Menz, Highland, IL; son, Willie Holzinger, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Jake Menz, Miranda Menz, and Owen Holzinger; brother, Fremont (Betty) Holzinger, Highland, IL; sisters, Alberta Holzinger, Highland, IL, and Antoinette Vaughn, Florida;  brother-in-Law, Randall (Thelma) Young, Decatur, IL.; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Wilfred was a type A personality who worked insistently. He loved Highland and became a man with character and high morals as he matured. As the last living founding member of the Highland Savings & Loan (Alpine Bank) it was my distinct pleasure to have served with him. God speed Wil.
