Vivian D. Gillespie, nee Kantner, 87, of Highland, IL died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, IL. She was born September 24, 1920 in Highland, IL to Bernard and Silda (Rautenstracht) Kantner, and they are both deceased. She married Joe Gillespie on September 7, 1940 in Troy, MO and he died February 18, 1984.
Also preceded in death by one son Patrick in infancy, one daughter Barbara Sylvester (2007) and one sister Jeanelia "Blondie" Kantner.
Mrs. Gillespie is survived by one daughter, Connie (Dan) Stallings, Henderson, Nevada, three sons, Joe (Tronda) Gillespie, Highland, IL Mike (Sue) Gillespie Highland, IL, Tim Gillespie, Highland, IL, eleven Grandchildren, Joe (Janet) Gillespie III, Highland, IL; Lisa Sylvester of New York; Doug (Elizabeth) Wright of California; Steve Wright of Texas; Johnna Stallings of Texas; Michelle (Bryan) Self - Antioch, IL; Jennifer Gillespie of Highland, IL; Michael Gillespie, Jr of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Christopher Gillespie of Highland, IL; Crystal Gillespie of Highland, IL; Brooke Gillespie of Highland, IL; and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Gillespie was a homemaker but also had worked in the shoe factories; catsup factory in Collinsville, IL and Wicks Organ Factory in Highland, IL.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, Dancing and going to the Boat.
Visitation: Friday, March 21, 2008 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Saturday March 22, 2008 from 8:00 - 10:00 A.M. at the Meridith Funeral Home, Highland.
Funeral: Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL with the Rev. Chris Hill, Senior Pastor of Evangelical UCC, Highland, IL officiating.
