  • Full Obituary

Victor “Vic” A. Pacewic, 83, of Collinsville, IL, born March 31, 1938, to Victor J. and Anna (nee Waichekauckas) Pacewic, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 2, 2021.

Victor was undoubtedly the cornerstone of his family, loving them dearly and making sure they always came first in his life. He was the happiest spending time with his friends and family, whether it was at their place on Lake Egypt, the garden he shared with his family, or the house that belonged to his parents. He loved to go hunting with his sons and brothers, practicing his faith in the Lord, and giving advice to his grandchildren. Victor was exceptionally loving and kind to all; he never met a stranger, only made new friends.

He started his own business, Reliable Distributors, delivering the Globe Democrat and Collinsville Herald to homes all over Collinsville for a number of years. He later worked for the Carpenters’ Union and United Steelworkers’ Union at Granite City Steel. Victor was a proud lifelong member of the Moose Lodge, and a member and Tiler of the Elks Lodge #664 in Fairview Heights, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor J. and Anna Pacewic, his brother, Thomas Pacewic, and his sister, Janet Vance.

He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Ann Pacewic, whom he married on October 29, 1958; children Vicki (Joel) Bluemner, Paula (Tom) Lanahan, Anthony (Cheryl) Pacewic, Jacqueline (Rob) Mitchell, and Chad (Christine) Pacewic; grandchildren, Kari (Kyle) Morton, Cassie Bluemner, Joel Hinrichs, Lindsey Hinrichs, Lydia Lanahan, Morgan Pacewic, Kathryn Mitchell, Karalyn Mitchell, Kristyn Mitchell, Melody Pacewic, Grace Pacewic, and Lauren Pacewic; great-grandchildren, Gatlin Morton and Arleigh Morton; three brothers, Alex (Joan) Pacewic, Edward (Letha) Pacewic, and Daniel (Ann) Pacewic; two sisters, Mary Ann (Bud) Riess, and Peggy (Martin) Bartz; as well as many nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elks Lodge #664 of Fairview Heights, IL.

Dearest Ruth Ann and family, our hearts reach out to you all as we mourn Victor’s unexpected death. He sent some gracious and comforting messages to our sister Frances when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018. (Frances died August 2020, and I’m confident that she’s among the many people welcoming Victor into eternal life.) With loving prayers, (Cousins) Mary Francine Danis and Helen Cox, San Antonio, Texas

  7. Ann Baker / December 6, 2021 at 11:21 pm

Dear Ruth Ann, Vicki, Paula, Jackie, Tony, Chad, and all the Pacewic family,

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of my cousin Vic. He was a kind man, and I could tell he was devoted to his mother and his family. I very much appreciated his visits to my mother in her later years, including her funeral just a year ago. And when my family descended on our Aunt Ann, his mother, for a visit, it seemed he was always there. You have my deepest sympathy.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Pacewic Family, one and all. And particularly to Alex who has been like a brother to me for all the years I’ve known him. Welcoming Alex into the Garde Family was the first time I met Vic, at the wedding of Joan and Alex. The Pacewic Brothers were a proud Clan that day – rough and tumble, dedicated to each other, brash, fun-loving, and ready to give it their-all. Over the years, as I got to know Alex, I also came to know Vic and his family through stories and pictures and warm conversation. Like the Great Lion of the pride he will be missed but never forgotten.
