Theresa Victoria Riester, 71, of Caseyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at BRIA Nursing Home in Columbia, IL.

She was born February 15, 1952, to Charles Elbert and Luella (nee Wilson) Riester, in East St. Louis, IL.

At eight years old, Theresa was the victim of an automobile accident where she was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing the street. She subsequently spent 6 months recovering at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Despite her circumstances, Theresa remained fiercely independent and optimistic.

She was a very active member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Caseyville, IL. There she belonged to the St. Anne’s Altar Society and acted as a liaison between St. Stephen’s and Faith In Action. Theresa also taught Parish Schools of Religion for a total of 30 years between California and Illinois. She volunteered at Family Hospice of Southern Illinois and loved to help others in need.

Theresa absolutely adored her three cats, Charlie, Abigail, and Eddie. She was a huge Cardinals fan and loved couponing and finding a great deal. She loved to spoil her nieces and nephews and always had a little gift or surprise for the little kids of the family. Family was very important to Theresa, and she loved them more than anything. Theresa was a treasured sister, aunt, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Elbert and Luella Riester.

Theresa is survived by her siblings, David (Joanne) Riester, Anthony (Sylvia) Riester, Christina (Terry) Bell; numerous nieces, nephews, and many loving friends.

Memorials may be made to Family Hospice of Southern Illinois, BRIA of Columbia, St. Stephen Catholic Church, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

David, Tony, and Chris, my thoughts are with you. I hope Theresa’s beloved cats found good homes. I will miss her Christmas cards. The Doyle first cousins in Indianapolis are all gone but me. However, there are are some Sinnott first cousins left in Southern Indiana, Michigan, and Nevada.
