- Full Obituary
Steven E. “Steve” Woolen Sr., 68, of Pocahontas, IL, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, in Staunton, IL.
He was born on January 28, 1955, in East St. Louis, IL, to Elmer and Virginia (nee Phipps) Woolen.
Steve has lived in Pocahontas since 1996, moving from Granite City, IL. He grew up in the East St. Louis and St. Clair Farms area. In 1977, he began working for Chrysler in Fenton, MO, on the assembly line until his retirement in 2007. Accompanying his time at Chrysler, Steve belonged to the UAW Local 110. After retiring, Steve traveled around transporting campers with his wife and sons.
Steve greatly enjoyed camping, especially around Carlyle Lake and in Litchfield, IL. He had a passion for watching movies, loving the old classics, war films, and anything with Clint Eastwood. Steve also liked watching classic TV shows and Chicago Cubs games. He loved his Coca Cola, had a cool collection of hats, and Limited/Special Edition cans/bottles of Busch, Budweiser, and Jack Daniels. To this day, Steve still owned the first vehicle he ordered from Chrysler, which was a 96’ Dodge 1500 he called “Old Blue”.
Steve liked spending time with his family and friends, often going out for dinner at Texas Roadhouse. He helped a lot of people, always spoke his mind, and was accepting of everyone. Above all else, Steve loved his family more than anything.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lee Ann (nee Briley) Woolen; son, Eric Woolen; parents, Elmer and Virginia Woolen; sister, Debra Tarrant.
Steve is survived by his sons, Steven E. “Steve” (Stacy) Woolen Jr., Donald “Donnie” (significant other Theresa K. Madewell) Woolen; grandsons, Dylan Woolen, Justin Woolen, Jesse Woolen, Ryan Woolen; great grandson, Jaxston Woolen; siblings, Oliver Woolen, Albert (Nancy) Woolen, Virginia Woolen; brother-in-law, Tommy Tarrant; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
A special thank you to Liz, “We really appreciate what you have done for Steve and our family.”
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospital of Staunton.
