  • Full Obituary

Stanley (Stan) R. Struckmeyer of Albion, IL born on February 7, 1952, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at the age of 72.

Stan is lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years Starr, and their sons and daughters in-law, Sean and Amanda of Missouri; Seth and Meredith of Ohio. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Emelia, Lewis, Jackson, Mark and Macy. He is also survived by his brother Don and wife Marilyn (North Carolina) and his sister Kathy and wife Joni (Minnesota). His family brought him immense joy and were a source of great pride throughout his life.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Robyn Struckmeyer; mother and father in-law, Cathy and Floyd Cates and many other close relatives.

Stan was a proud educator earning B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Education from SIU-E. He worked in various school districts in Illinois before moving to Albion.

Starting in 1990, Stan joined the Edwards County School System as the Transportation Director, Albion Grade School Principal, culminating in 14 years as the High School Principal (of which he was immensely proud). He retired in 2009 due to health issues experienced from late onset Inclusion Body Myositis (IBM) muscular dystrophy. Post retirement he also proudly served a single term as a member of the Edwards County School Board.

A notable accolade from Stan's career was the creation of the “Stan Struckmeyer Perseverance Award” intended to honor regional educators who have overcome arduous and difficult circumstances during the school year.

In his spare time, Stan loved to tell jokes, he was a jokester! He also loved to work on cars, collecting Mopar garage signs, writing letters to the editor and telling people how to do things.

Stan’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his legacy bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. Stan expressed his gratitude to everyone in the community and especially for those that helped pick him up from his many "spills".

Donations can be made to the Edwards County Senior Citizens Center or Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org).

Casual Dress is requested for Stan Struckmeyer services. Visitation for Stan Struckmeyer will be held Monday, January 13, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Little Prairie Christian Church, west of Albion, IL.
