Stanley R. Griggs, 74, formerly of Trenton, born April 29, 1939, in East St. Louis, died October 22, 2013 at Clinton Manor in New Baden, IL.
Stan grew up in Lebanon, where he made many lifelong friends. He played basketball for the Lebanon Community High School Greyhounds and later attended Southeast Missouri State College and Southern Illinois University. Stan was a 6-year, active-duty veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in Washington, D.C. and Madrid, Spain.
During his career in sales and marketing in the refrigeration industry, Stan worked in Illinois and Minnesota before resettling in Trenton and later in the Tampa, FL, area. He continued to make many friends along the way, all of whom will miss him.
Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Gerry Griggs; his father, George B. Griggs; his father-in-law, Stanley Bicz; and a nephew, Kristian Griggs.
Surviving are Stan's daughters, Jennifer (Barry) Jackson and Jackie (Fred) Griggs; his mother, Myrtle Griggs; his mother-in-law, Mary Bicz; his brothers, Brad (Vera) Griggs and Tom (Anne) Griggs; his sister-in-law, Marsha (Raul) Vargas; his grandsons, Grant and Benjamin Jackson; and his nieces and nephews, Jason Vargas, Bryan Vargas, Jeff Griggs, Jill Griggs, and Kim Griggs.
Memorials made be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Paul United Church of Christ, Lebanon, IL.
