    Ruth L. Smith, 95, formally of Cisne, IL passed away on October 21, 2022, Ruth was born the youngest of seven children to James and Flossie (Henthorn) States on September 21, 1927.  She married Rollie O. Smith on February 25, 1945.

    She was an active member of Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church for a number of years.

    Ruth was a homemaker.  She worked at Obrecht’s Store in Cisne stocking shelves and Mt. Erie Elementary school as a cook.  Her hobbies were gardening, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, and making cakes for special occasions.

    Ruth will be remembered as a caregiver and nurturer to not only her own children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, the Mugrage children, and countless Blue Point and Mt. Erie children.

    Ruth is survived by her daughter, Pamela (Gregory) Courtright of Mt. Vernon, IL; granddaughter, Sarah R Courtright and great granddaughter Ava Ryan Courtright-Mays both of O’Fallon, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

    She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband, son Bill L. Smith, grandson Nathan R. Courtright, sisters Irene Garnand, Lorene Tannahill, Betty Henson, Mary Schiele, Wreatha Liss and one brother Charles States.

    Funeral service for Ruth will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral in Cisne, IL with burial in Cisne Cemetery.

    Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service.

    In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Blue Point Freewill Baptist Church in memory of Ruth L. Smith and will be accepted at the Meridith-Hosselton Funeral Home.
