Ruth A. (nee Yoder) Hauenstein, 93, of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at Aviston Countryside Manor.
Ruth was born September 16, 1926, to Finley and Inez (nee Shilling) Yoder, in East Greenville, OH. On September 16, 1949, she married Ralph J. Hauenstein.
In 1944 she graduated from Washington High School, Massillon, OH. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Navarre, OH; Charter member of Wilderness Center in Wilmot, OH; member of Eastern Star #524 in Highland, IL, and Legacy Chapter in North Canton, OH. Ruth was also a member of the VFW Post #5694 Highland Auxillary, Weinheimer Senior Citizens and attended Quilting classes at Rosemary’s Fabrics in Highland.
Ruth loved to crochet and knit. She taught 2nd grade Sunday school at Navarre UCC and was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader in Brewster, OH. She was employed at Sears & Roebuck as Asst. Credit Manager, then Enterprise Aluminum in Sales. Later, she worked as Assistant Librarian in the Massillon Public Library, Brewster Branch and Teacher’s Aide at the Brewster Elementary School. She then became the Librarian and Teachers Aide at Beach City Elementary. Ruth retired in 1991, moving to Highland in 2008.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Mike) Engel of Aviston, IL; grandsons, Matt (Karrie) Engel of Savannah, MO, and Jeff (Whitney Owen) Engel of Mt. Vernon, IL; granddaughters, Jenni (John) Keeven of Breese, IL, and Jacki (Tim) Richter of Albers, IL; great grandchildren; Connor, Luci, Landon, Reese, Hadley, Maverick, Josie, Maddux, & Auggie; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Finley and Inez Yoder; husband, Ralph J. Hauenstein (9/6/2007); brothers, Glenn Yoder and Arlan Yoder; sister, Mary Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland VFW Post #5694, Wilderness Center, Wilmot, OH., or the Cancer Care Program.
