Russell A. Chapman, 68, of Collinsville, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, peacefully in Shobanier, IL, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 7, 1956, in East St. Louis, IL, to Bert and Dorothy (nee Caldwell) Chapman, Sr.

Russell found solace and exhilaration in the roaring thunder of motorcycles. With his faithful Harley-Davidson by his side, he conquered miles of open road, embracing the freedom of the ride with each twist of the throttle. His love for the open road was matched only by his adoration for classic rock music, his radio faithfully tuned to KSHE 95 accompanied him on many journeys.

Yet, amidst his love for the road, Russell's heart was always firmly rooted in family. He cherished nothing more than spending time with his loved ones, and his gatherings were legendary. With the scent of barbecue wafting through the air and the sounds of laughter echoing in the breeze, Russell brought together family and friends with ease, creating memories that would last a lifetime. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he took immense pride in being the one to unite them, his presence a beacon of warmth and love.

Those who knew Russell will remember him for his infectious laughter, his quick wit, and his unwavering optimism. He had a knack for finding humor in every situation and could light up a room with his smile. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and his presence brought light and warmth wherever he went.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Dorothy Chapman, Sr.; brother, Bert Chapman, Jr.; sister, Sandra (Darvin) Lord; nephew, Kristen Lord; niece, Christina Angela Chapman.

Russell is survived by his sister-in-law, Phyllis Chapman; nephew, Brian (Rebecca) Chapman; niece, Tracy (Jeff) Liles; great nieces and nephews, Lance (Lilly) Chapman, Maggie Chapman, Jeffrey Liles, Zachary Liles; aunts, Gloria Hollen, Margaret Caldwell; close family, Gary (Shari) Hollen; aunts, uncles, cousins, and many loving friends.

Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Hospital.
