    RONALD B. RILEY, 88, of Geff, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Aperion Care Fairfield in Fairfield with his family by his side.

    Ron was born on March 12, 1930, to Earl and Bessie (Lane) Riley in Edinburg, TX. He married Ruth Anne Hilliard on September 13, 1950, in Geff, IL.

    Ron served in the Army in the infantry in the First Cavalry Division in Germany, then later during the Korean War from July 1948 - December 1951. Ron and Anne were members of the First Methodist Church in Fairfield, and Ron was also a member of the VFW and American Legion in Fairfield. He was a farmer most of his life. He loved to bow hunt white tail deer and bear, and go trapping for mink. He loved all animals and being outdoors. He was known for his great sense of humor and being a tough old bird.

    Ron is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne Riley; one son, John E. (Cheryl) Riley of Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren, Ronald (Nicole) Jelley of Geff, Tamela (Jasent) Freeman of Fairfield, and Lindsey (Daniel) McVay of Baltimore, MD; 6 great-grandchildren, Shane and Hannah Locey, Brenna and Kiera Freeman, and Connor and Camden McVay; two sisters, Ann (Ken) New and Susie Headley both of Fairfield; one sister-in-law, Rosalie Riley; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharon; three brothers, Arthur, Cecil, and his twin, Donald.

    Funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 – 2:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bestow Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery.

    Memorials may be directed to Wayne County Humane Society or the Marion VA Medical Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
