Robert Simms passed away on September 12, 2023 at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation (Mt. Carmel, IL) after thirty years with Parkinson’s Disease. Robert was born April 17, 1950 in Fairfield, IL to Albert and Ella (Medler) Simms. He was the last born of seven children and was raised on the Simms family farm. Robert attended Edwards County schools and graduated from Edwards County High School in 1968.

Following his father’s death, Robert continued to farm his family’s land and earn a living to support his mother. He then worked at Champion Laboratories and Duke Energy; he retired from Duke Energy after 32 years.

Robert first married Mary Lou Swanson, and they had three children. He then married Brenda Dietz, and together, they raised five children: Carl, Abby, Rachel, Aaron, and Jennifer. They were his pride and joy.

Sports were always a part of Robert’s life. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals! He played football in high school and baseball in city/church leagues, and then his true athletic passion came calling… golf. He enjoyed fifteen years of golf on courses in southern Illinois. Mr. Simms also spent some time in woodworking, making special projects for family and friends.

Robert was a member of FFA, Kiwanis, IBEW Local #1393, and Mt. Carmel Church of Christ. His best friends and cousins were Kenny Short and David Terry. Robert never knew a stranger; he was a friend to many. He had a great sense of humor and loved people with all of his heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
