It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Lloyd Reid, who departed this world peacefully on August 21, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on September 10, 1933, in Greater Chicago, Illinois, Robert was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and distinguished professional whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.

Robert was the cherished son of Lloyd and Nellie Reid. He grew up in the Chicago area, where he became an Eagle Scout and developed a lifelong passion for learning, engineering, and fishing. After completing his engineering degree at Purdue University, Robert dedicated over 40 years to his career as an Engineer at Cadillac and at ITT, making significant contributions to the industry and earning respect and admiration from his peers.

Robert married his beloved and devoted wife, Jean Reid, a week after graduation, and together they shared a loving and supportive partnership throughout their 69-year marriage. They built a beautiful family, raising two daughters who were his pride and joy: Anne Elizabeth Reid Nelson and Ellen Margaret Reid DiMarco. Robert’s love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

In his retirement, which exceeded the time he worked, Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, and fishing in the Great Lakes, Canada, Alaska, and Florida. He enjoyed keeping up with current events and sharing his wisdom and experience with those around him. His warmth, kindness, unwavering integrity, and ever-present smile left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Jean; his daughters, Anne and Ellen, grandchildren Alexander, Jennifer, and Jessica Nelson, and a host of friends and family who will miss him dearly. His memory will be honored and cherished, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him.

Robert Lloyd Reid will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
