Richard "Joe" Lawler of Lebanon, IL passed away at home with his wife by his side at the age of 89 on Tuesday February 13, 2024.

He was born April 19, 1934, to Tom Lawler and Mary Ann Lawler (nee Berrigan).  Joe lived his early life in Ridgway, IL with his three brothers, John, Steve, and Martin, and sister, Anna Mary. After high school, he joined the military and married the love of his life, Martha Sue "Marty" Lawler (nee Maloney), who he spent the next 67 years with almost inseparably. Joe and Marty lived in Lebanon, IL where they had two daughters, Colene, and Sherri.

Those who knew Joe would say that he had a strong work ethic, a deep love for family and friends, and a willingness to put others before himself. Joe’s capacity for caring for and serving loved ones was unmatched and one of his greatest achievements. Whether it was bringing Colene a Dilly Bar, giving one of his grandkids a ride, or babysitting a great grandkid, Poppy was always there - but you better believe he's going to keep you in line.

In his free time, Joe enjoyed tending to a sizable garden, spending time with his beloved wife, and being a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Parish of Lebanon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Mary Ann Lawler; siblings, John Lawler, Anna Mary Kaufman, Steve Lawler, and Martin Lawler.

Joe is survived by his wife, Marty Lawler; daughters, Colene (Tom) Schwaegel, Sherri (Dave) Midgley; grandchildren, Trisha (Anthony) Perrigo, Tina (Dave) Kowalewski, Terri (Eric) Lehan, Rebecca Midgley, Kris Midgley; great-grandchildren, Nolaan, Cody, Tristan, Daniel, Riley, Josephine, Isabella, Max; many nieces and nephews.
