    Richard F. “Dick” Legier, 79, of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

    Dick was born on September 4, 1933, in Sumner, IL, to Richard O. and Fern (nee Hill) Legier.  On October 5, 1957, he married Betty Becker in Marine, IL.

    He was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ, the Masonic Lodge, VFW, all in Highland and a former member of the Moose Lodge in Edwardsville, IL.  He served in the US Navy during the Korean War on the USS Coral Sea.  He owned and operated the Texaco Service Station in Edwardsville, IL, before going to work for McDonnell Aircraft Corp and retiring after 30 years. 

    He enjoyed many years camping and sailing on Carlyle Lake.  After retirement, he and his wife traveled across the country in their motor home and spent winters in Florida and Texas.  He enjoyed working at a resort in Brice Canyon, Utah.

    He is survived by his wife, Betty Legier, Highland, IL and his daughter, Kathy (Alan) Wilson, Highland, IL, 3 grandchildren, Rebecca (Justin) Stafford, Rachel (Jeremy) Massa, Hannah Wilson.

    He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Fern Legier; his sister, Doris Jane Legier, in infancy.

    Memorials:  Evangelical United Church of Christ or American Heart Association.

    Visitation:  Friday, May 31, 2013, 5:00-8:00 pm at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL, and Saturday, June 1, 2013, 10:00-11:00 am at Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL.

    Funeral:  Saturday, June 1, 2013, at 11:00 am at Evangelical United Church of Christ.

    Clergy:  Rev. Chris Hill, Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ.

    Interment:  Highland City Cemetery.
