Rebecca Jane 'Rawlins' Tennill Perkins passed away on November 16, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis MO.
She was born on May 17, 1934 in White Hall, IL to Judson Winford Tennill and Ermina 'Rawlins' Tennill.
She attended Roodhouse High School and graduated summa cum laude from University of Illinois in 1955 with a degree in medical technology. She worked many years as the Chemistry Supervisor at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, MO; then in 1982 became Lab Manager at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Alton, IL. At the age of 62, she advanced to a new career as a Pathology Assistant and was employed at Christian Northeast Hospital and Jefferson Memorial Hospital until her retirement at age 72.
Since her retirement, Rebecca has been caring for her two youngest grandchildren, Briea and Sam, the four year old twins of Sam Perkins.
Rebecca is survived by one brother, Bob Tennill, of Jacksonville, IL; sons, Juddson Perkins (wife Kelly) of Kincaid, IL and Samuel Perkins (wife Michelle) of Highland, IL; daughter, Rebecca Carpenter (husband Dr. David Carpenter) of St. Louis, MO; three grandsons, Josh Perkins, Jim Hancock and Sam Perkins; five granddaughters, Tabitha Perkins, Samantha Neighbours (husband Craig), Kristen Perkins, Casey Carpenter and Briea Perkins and one great granddaughter, Maci Neighbours. Rebecca's husband, Samuel Perkins, and three brothers, Jack Tennill, Terry Tennill and Ron Tennill all preceded her in death.
Rebecca resided in Highland, IL since 2008 and was active in the Highland Civic Women’s Club and the Highland Garden Club. She was also an active member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at 10:00 o'clock a.m. at the Evangelical United Church of Christ.
Memorials may be offered to the Highland Civic Women’s Club or the Salvation Army.
