    Raymond L. Duke,73 of Cisne, Illinois peacefully slipped away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

    Ray was born on July 12, 1947 at Effingham, Illinois to Ellery and Margaret (Howard) Duke. Ray married Ann Carter on November 24, 1968 at the Brick Church. They shared 53 wonderful years together.

    Ray spent twenty- eight years in the insurance field and that gave he and his wife, Ann the opportunity to live in many different parts of the country. Ray attended Southern Illinois University graduating June 1968. Ray liked being outdoors, landscaping, spending time with his grandsons and spending time at the beach with friends. Ray was also a volunteer at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, served as Cisne Village Trustee for several years. Ray served in the Illinois National Guard. He was a member of Grapevine Methodist Church in Grapevine, Texas and was a past member of Kiwanis Club,

    Ray is survived by his wife, Ann; one daughter Holly (Eric) Emery of Windsor, Colorado; one brother Ellery H. (Marsha) Duke of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren also survive Jack and Sam Emery; three sister-in- law Pat (Doug) Hilliard, Judy Conard, Vickie (Ray) Vest. He is also survived by many nieces and one awesome nephew, Benjamin J. Duke.

    Preceding him in death were his parents Ellery and Margaret Duke.

    Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2021 at 2pm the Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home.Burial will follow in Cisne Cemetery.

    Visitation will be noon to service time at the funeral home.

    Please observe CDC guidelines for social distancing and wearing a mask.

    Memorial may be given to Clay County Hospice and will be accepted at the funeral home.

    Dear Ann, family and Ellery,

    Our condolences to you and family in the loss of Raymond. I was a roommate with Ray’s brother Ellery and knew through Ellery and the Wesley Foundation at SIU Carbondale. I remember Ray as gentle, kind, cheerful and with a smile.

    May God’s loving presence comfort you through this time of loss, and may the joy and many fond memories of your lives together for 53+ years remain undimmed.
