Pearl J. Immer (nee Frey), 98 of Highland, IL. passed away Jan. 1, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Pearl was born Nov 19, 1924, to Paul J. and Cleda (Weindel) Frey, in rural Highland, just south of Pierron, IL. She married Fred L. Immer on May 19, 1944, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and he preceded her in death on Aug, 7, 1986.

Pearl grew up on the family farm and attended Immaculate Conception Church and school in Pierron, where she sang in the choir.

At age 16, she went to work at the Silvers and Danches Egg Plant where she met the love of her life, Fred. She followed Fred from Army/Air Force base to base. While living in S. On their return to Highland, Fred and Pearl lived on Deck’s Prairie for about 3 years and then moved into town. After her 3 children were school aged, she worked at Parkway Drive-in (The Icee Stand) for many years. Later she volunteered at the Faith Countryside kitchen and dining room.

Pearl enjoyed the outdoors, working in her flower and vegetable garden and canning or freezing the produce.  She made baby quilts for her grandchildren and large quilts for family. She liked to cook and bake and made shoe boxes full of cookies for her grandchildren for Christmas. When her eyes were still good she loved to read. Her favorite authors were James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks. She loved playing cards with friends and family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Christine) Immer; daughters, Karen Immer, and Sandra (Al) Holt; sister, Mary Zurliene, brothers-in-law, Jack Eversgerd, Robert Immer, Dale Volskay, sister- in-law, Mary Frey; seven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Denny, Karen, and Sandy — what a beautiful picture of your mother! I remember her so well. We had a wonderful neighborhood and she is certainly one of the reasons why.. Barbara Christoe McElroy

Karen, your mother definitely left her mark and is surrounded by the results of her love and contribution during her long and full life. And she really made some good cookies too.

Karen, Sandy and Denny… your mom was the best friend and neighbor, who always had an open patio chair to chat! Yes, a wonderful long life, Karen and Pearl were the best neighbors! And yes a master cookie baker. Loved her smile and laugh. I will miss our visits. We shared grandma stories….

    Sandy and family,
I have so many fond memories of your mother. We had so much fun working together at Parkway and she never treated me like the kid I was. She certainly seemed to have an understanding of teenagers. The picture of her above is just beautiful. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Hold on to the memories.

    Dennis, Karen and Sandy:
Good memories of my sister, Pearl. She was a remarkable person. I am very thankful that I was able to visit her and Karen, just a few weeks ago.

I am so sorry for your loss. My heart hurts and I’m like you with tears as I write or talk. Aunt Pearl was my second mom, my constant reminder of the importance of family and love. My memories of her go back as far as I can remember and those will last for an eternity. My love goes out to you.

Karen was my friend first, then I twice traveled with friends to Illinois to visit. Both times we were welcomed with open arms and warm hearts. Pearl was an amazing lady, beaming love always, along with a plate of good food! I will always cherish those moments in their home. My heart goes out to Karen and the family.

Karen, though I only met your lovely mother once, I am thinking of you and your family now. Condolences as you reflect on her huge loving life.

‘Oceans of love’ to Denny, Karen, and Sandy – a term of endearment that Aunt Pearl always used in her letters to my mother, Joan, over the years. Seems appropriate now….Danny Bright
