Oscar William “Oskie” Hug, 76, of Highland, IL, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 22, 1941, in Highland, IL, to Delburt and Cecelia (nee Neier) Hug. On Saturday, January 20, 1962, he married Mary Sue Warning of Highland, IL.
Oscar started as a painter with his father and brother, then was later self-employed. He painted for over 50 years and took great pride in his work. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing speed boats and cars, having won many trophies. His ’51 Chevy was featured on Route 66 in 1962. He was a member of S.C.C.A. and loved camping and boating. Oscar’s pride and joy was the family clubhouse on Shoal Creek. He took great pleasure in family gatherings and parties there. Oscar was a Cardinals and Blues fan, but most enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports. In a competitive family who took pool volleyball seriously, he was often on the winning team--He was voted First Team All-tournament in 2014. Oscar’s other hobbies and passions included antique cars, car shows, music, karaoke, playing cards, making sausage, refinishing furniture, playing pranks on family and friends and making you laugh with his one liners and “Oscarisms.” He was also an animal lover and cherished his pets. He will be greatly missed by friends and family. They find comfort knowing he’s singing country music in heaven.
He is survived by his Wife, Mary Sue Hug (nee Warning), Highland, IL; Children, Cheryl A. (Kent) Knebel, Highland, IL, Mark D. (Jacki) Hug, Highland, IL, Holly S. (Kevin) Miles, Highland, IL, Jenny L. (Mike) Smargiassi, Highland, IL; Grandchildren, Melissa Hug, Brooke Hug, Tricia Hug, Dylan Knebel, Colten Knebel, Kaiden Miles, Avery Miles, Jacob Willis, and Cameron Willis; Step Grandchildren, Mariah (Jesse) Adams, Marine, IL, Payne Smargiassi, Troy, IL; Step Great Grandchildren, Hayden Adams; Brother, Keith (JoAnn) Hug, Highland, IL; Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Delburt and Cecelia Hug; Sister, Janice Hug; Mother-in-Law, Doris (nee Duft) Wernle; Father-in-Law, Eldo Wernle; Infant Grandson, Kannon Miles.
Memorials may be made to HIS KIDS, Highland Animal Shelter, or Heartland Hospice.
