    Olive C. Nungesser (nee Thurnau), 90, of Highland, IL, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at Alhambra Care Center, with her family at her side.

    Olive was born April 8, 1929, to Oliver and Mary “Mayme” (nee Liebler) Thurnau, in Highland, IL. On April 19, 1952, she married Delmar Nungesser at Grantfork United Church of Christ.

    Olive was a former member of St. Jacob United Church of Christ, Edwardsville Moose Lodge, a Madison County Rural Youth 4-H Leader, and more recently, the St. Jacob UCC quilting ladies.

    After high school, she worked at Madison County Courthouse and the Farm Bureau. Then after she married, she helped on the farm with her husband and raised her children. She worked at Bergman Taylor until she retired. Most of all, she loved her time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting with her sisters and anybody that would sit down at a quilt with her.

    She is survived by her children, Carol J. (Dave) Schwend, Highland, IL, and Kent L. (Julie) Nungesser, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Mindi J. (Nik) Kunz, Chris E. (Danni) Schwend, Parker A. (fiancé, Abby Burroughs) Nungesser; great grandchildren, Macie J. Kunz, Mabrie O. Kunz; brothers, Warren V. Thurnau, Edwardsville, IL, Robert (Dottie) Thurnau, St. Jacob, IL; sister, Eleanor Pirok, Highland; brother-in-law, George Willaredt, Edwardsville, IL; sister-in-law, Betty Thurnau, Edwardsville, IL; many nieces and nephews.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mary “Mayme” Thurnau; husband, Delmar H. Nungesser (Aug 31, 1984); brother, Harold Thurnau; sister-in-law, Laurine Thurnau; sister, Lyla Gerstenecker; brother-in-law, Dale Gerstenecker; sister, Jeanette Taylor; brother-in-law, Louis Taylor; brother-in-law, Henry Pirok; brother, Clifford Thurnau; sister, Joan Willaredt; sister-in-law, Betty Thurnau.

    Memorials may be made to St. Jacob United Church of Christ, Susan G. Komen or Heartland Hospice.

    Visitation: Thursday, June 27, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL, and Friday, June 28, 2019, from 9:00-10:00 am, at St. Jacob United Church of Christ, St. Jacob, IL.
