    Nile Perry Balding was born on September 20, 1933 in rural Albion to Stella and Fred Balding. He graduated from Albion High School and joined the United States Air Force in 1952. Nile was a multi-sport athlete in high school and played softball on Air Force base teams for many years after. On June 26, 1955 he married Helen Hoeszle, of West Salem. The couple had two daughters.

    Nile served for 21 years in the Air Force being stationed in the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Pacific Islands. He is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

    Nile is remembered for his sense of humor and for joking around with everyone he met. His favorite pastime was collecting and restoring farm tools, well pulleys, and cow bells. He enjoyed showing them to visitors and swapping stories about them.

    Nile passed into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 20, 2018. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen; his two daughters: Kathy Gilligan (John) of Scottsdale, Arizona and Joyce Balding of Byron, Georgia; two grandsons, John Jr. (Brittany) and Mike ( Lauren); and one great grandson, Jacob.

    Visitation will be held Monday, August 27, 2018 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home in West Salem, IL. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted at the graveside.

    Memorials may be made to Macedonia Cemetery, and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
