    Myrel V. “Ted” McKinney, 101, of West Salem, IL, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Highland Health Care Center, Highland, IL.

    Ted was born September 21, 1920 to Lawrence and Cova (Wells) McKinney, on the farm in Bone Gap, IL.  He married Marty Miller, and they had three children, Phil, Judy and Ted.  Marty preceded him in death.  He married Shirley Reynolds, they had three children, Jed, Craig and Jason.  Shirley preceded him in death.

    At the age of 18 he was drafted into the Army.  After Basic Training he was sent to New Caledonia to build barracks for military personnel.  He spent two years on the Island.  At the end of WWII, he came home and started working at Prairie Farms, starting with a milk route and finishing in the plant, after 44 years.

    He was a member of West Salem Christian Church, and an active member of the American Legion serving on the Honor Guard for many years.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan.  He loved going to family reunions and the Chowders.  Ted enjoyed hunting Quail and tending to his garden.  He was very proud of his children.

    Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Cova McKinney; wife, Marty McKinney; wife, Shirley McKinney; sons, Phil McKinney, Jed McKinney; great-granddaughter, Chloe Elizabeth Farmer; siblings, Joyce Miller, Fern Tuley, Helen Keener, Louise Yoder, Vivian Edwards, Virgil McKinney, Ivan McKinney; brothers-in-law, Russell Greathouse, Charlie Tuley, Les Yoder, Bill Edwards; sisters-in-law, Helen McKinney, Juanita McKinney.

    He is survived by his children, Judy (Jim) Maris, Ballwin, MO, Ted McKinney, Highland, IL, Craig (Connie) McKinney, West Salem, IL, Jason (Tricia) McKinney, West Salem, IL, daughters-in-law, Jane McKinney, Edwardsville, IL, Mary McKinney, Terre Haute, IN; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Greathouse, West Salem, IL; brothers-in-law, Ed Miller, West Salem, IL, Gary Keener, Danville, IL.

    Memorials may be made to Pinhook Cemetery.

    Visitation: Wednesday, July 6, 2022, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, at West Salem Christian Church.

    Funeral: Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 12:00 pm at West Salem Christian Church.

    Interment: Moravian Cemetery, West Salem, IL.

    Ingram Meridith Funeral Home, West Salem, IL.

    Condolences to the family. I will always remember Ted as my little league baseball couch and he gave me the nickname “Lefty”. Always enjoyed the stories my dad told about quail hunting adventures with Ted, as well as the practical jokes between the Cardinal and Cubs fans.

    Jim Kermicle , my husband, worked with Ted at Prairie Farms for many years. We were so glad to call him our dear friend. We visited back and forth and shared fun stories. His was a life well lived. Our condolences to the family for your loss.
