Mina Opal Gibbs, 94, of Highland, IL, passed away peacefully, September 26th, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

She was born March 21, 1927, to William Dewey Stonebarger and Lettie Fern Good, in Truesdale, MO.  She married David Jack Gibbs on June 29, 1946, in Kansas City, KS.

Mina was the epitome of generosity and selflessness, always putting the needs and desires of those around her above her own.  Whether it was being the conscientious host and chef of every family gathering, providing encyclopedic knowledge on essentially any topic, being a sympathetic ear to help with any problem, and even opening her home as a refuge for any family member in need of a place to stay, Mina was the heart and soul of the family.  She carried over this passion for helping others into the community by using her education from Florissant Valley Community College as a dietician, to assist in her role at Jewish Center for the Aged. She later served as a CNA at Bethesda and Friendship Village, working tirelessly to care for those in need.  This selflessness extended to our four-legged friends as well.  Mina was a supporter of the St. Louis Zoo as a Zoo Parent, in addition to adopting several pets rescued from abusive homes.  Those fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to share time, a conversation, a coffee, some homemade cannelloni, gardening tips, book recommendations, or a lovingly made quilt or blanket were enriched by those encounters and will never forget what Mina meant to everyone.  She brought light into the lives of everyone she met and leaves this world a better place for having been a part of it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Dewey Stonebarger and Lettie Fern Good; husband, David Jack Gibbs; sisters, Carol Leuktemeyer, Maxine Stonebarger; brothers, Roger Stonebarger, Joseph Stonebarger, Jim Stonebarger, and Leon Stonebarger.

Mina is survived by her children, Richard (Barb) Gibbs, St. Louis, MO, Jeanette (Arnold) Vance, Potosi, MO, Gail Fisher, Highland, IL, Lynn Orr, Troy, IL; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Stonebarger; sister, Launa Wyatt.

In lieu of gifts, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri.

No services will be held at this time.
