Michael E. Totty, 58, of Collinsville, IL, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2023, in Santa Monica, CA.
He was born March 30, 1965, in Belleville, IL, to Edward and Barbara (nee Williams) Totty.
As a Cub Scout, he embraced the values of camaraderie and service, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others. His passion for preserving cultural traditions led him to become a Cahokia Mound Indian Dancer, where he honored and celebrated the richness of indigenous heritage through dance. In his youth, Michael found solace and exhilaration in the world of dirt bikes, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life.
As an adult, Michael's love for travel took him to many places, but none captured his heart quite like Hawaii. Michael's talents in the kitchen were unparalleled. His specialties, steak and lobster, were crafted with love and precision, delighting the taste buds of all fortunate enough to savor his creations. His love for BBQ extended beyond the kitchen, as he found immense joy in spending days outdoors grilling at the park, reveling in the simplicity of the moment.
Michael's generosity knew no bounds. A selfless soul, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and those in need. His caring nature extended to his family, where he delighted in spoiling his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews with sweet treats, forever earning the title of the beloved candy-giver. He was a treasured son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Totty, Jr.; son, Shane Michael Totty; brothers, Elmer Totty, Donald Totty, Ronald Totty, Eddie Totty, Delbert Totty, Charles Williams, Brian Williams; sisters, Betty Martinez, Bitsy Friese.
Michael is survived by his mother, Barbara Totty, Maryville, IL; daughter, Vanessa Totty, Collinsville, IL; granddaughters, Rylee Hart, Collinsville, IL, Peyton Totty, Denham Springs, LA; brother, Doug Totty; sisters, Diana (Tom) Merrill, Benld, IL, Marilyn Moll, Debra (Kenny) Hayes, Collinsville, IL; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many loving friends.
