      Michael A. “Mike” Campbell, 80, of Highland, IL, formerly of Marysville, OH, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Cedarhurst of Highland.

      He was born on May 3, 1944, in Monroe, Louisianna, to Charles Roy and Harriette (nee Baucus) Campbell.

      Mike has lived in Highland for the last 7 months, moving from Marysville, OH. He grew up in Ohio and graduated from Chillicothe High School, then attended and played football at Ohio University. After college, Mike went into law enforcement. He was a police officer with the Chillicothe Police Department, retiring later as a Franklin County Sheriff. Mike also worked security for Ohio Health.

      Mike was an active marksman and was the state police pistol champion for a time. He had various hobbies including photography, flying, auto racing, operating HAM Radio, and watching Ohio State Football. Mike loved spending time with his grandkids and later in life, he enjoyed traveling. He was an adventurous man, not liking to sit still for very long, and took great pride in being an officer of the law.

      He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Harriette Campbell; son, Steven Shane Campbell; stepson, Terry McDowell; and stepdaughter, Kim McDowell.

      Mike is survived by his son, James Michael “Jim” (Tracy) Campbell, Highland, IL; former wife, Connie (Smothers) Campbell; grandchildren, Shane Michael Campbell, Mitchell Frederick Campbell, and Steven James Campbell; step grandson, Seth McDowell; brother, Steve (Mary Ann) Campbell, New Richmond, WI; and multiple stepchildren and step grandchildren.

      Memorial Visitation: Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at The Village of

      Clermont Community Center, 9511 Clermont Blvd, Powell, OH

      Big Mike had badge number 4 at FCSO. Someone new deputies could look up to and seek guidance from.
      Thankful I was able to work with him though for a short while before he retired
