- Full Obituary
Melody D. Diliberto (nee Lane) was born April 9, 1955, in Long Beach, California. She passed away at age 57 on March 6, 2013, at her home in Lebanon surrounded by her loving family. Her death resulted from the cancer that she had successfully battled for 27 years.
On September 15, 1973, Melody married Joseph A. Diliberto in Long Beach, California. Melody attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Joe and Melody’s years in the United States Air Force took them from California to Missouri, Ohio, Illinois, and Texas. They chose to stay in Lebanon when Joe retired from the Air Force in 2000.
Compassion and love for all living things help define Melody’s years. She shared almost 40 years of loving marriage with Joe. She shared fully with her children, Amanda and Adam, including years of Scouting leadership, room mothering, and Band Booster fundraising to include leading their first House Tour. Melody naturally made neighbors, friends, and each person she knew feel special. She loved working in the yard, gardening, and enjoyed all of the out-of-doors. No part of nature was too small for her to notice. From the smallest earthworm to the birds at her feeders, to her passion for animal rescue, nothing was ever too small or unimportant for Melody’s love.
Melody thrived in her role as church secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, IL. It was her favorite of her jobs and loved making offices run smoothly. She also served at the church comfortably doing everything from arranging flowers to Financial Secretary and Trustees.
Melody is survived by her husband Joe Diliberto, Lebanon, Illinois; children Amanda (Tyler) Daniels, El Paso, Texas, and Adam (Larissa) Diliberto, Swansea, Illinois; grandchildren Aria Bella and Giuliana Daniels; her parents, Walter Lane of Lebanon, Illinois and Opal Cornelius of Garden Grove, California.
A memorial service celebrating Melody’s life will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, Illinois at 11:30 A.M. Visitation will be held before the service starting at 9:30 A.M. A light luncheon in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service. Memorial donations may be made to Stray Rescue of St. Louis 2320 Pine Street, St. Louis, MO 63103 or to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
