Mary M. Holshouser, 94, of Highland, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
She was born on December 25, 1930, in Highland, IL, to John A. and Anna M. (nee Schumacher) Luber. Mary graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School in 1948. On May 1, 1954, she married William F. Holshouser at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL. Mary worked for Southwestern Bell until they moved to Georgia for William’s military service.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Fancy Ladies Bridge Club, and various card playing groups. In their earlier years, Mary and William used to golf frequently. She enjoyed quilting, baking, playing card games, dice games, dominos, and doing word searches. Mary was an excellent baker, loved candy, and liked potted plants.
A kind, generous, patient, and faithful woman, Mary will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John A. and Anna M. Luber; husband, William F. Holshouser; granddaughter, Rebecca Jane Durnin, in infancy; siblings, Leonard (Marian) Luber, Lucille (Louis) Kapp, Joan (Harold) Reim, Walt Luber, Blanche (Lawrence “Pep”) Venhaus, Jim Luber, and John A. “Jack” Luber.
Mary is survived by her children, Alan W. (Cynthia) Holshouser, St. Charles, MO, Anne M. Register, Plano, TX, Lynn M. (John) Borcherding, Eureka, MO, Jane L. (Michael) Durnin, Hillsboro, MO, Mary Elizabeth Kuhlmann, Ferguson, MO, and Karin Zbinden, Highland, IL; grandchildren, Christopher (Rebecca) Holshouser, Abby (Robert) Zehme, Stephanie Register, Kelsey Borcherding, Thomas Borcherding, Sean Durnin, Kaitlin Durnin, Hannah Durnin, Nathan Kuhlmann, Grace Kuhlmann, Gina (Trevor) Kinkel, and Tanner Zbinden; great grandchildren, Valerie Holshouser, Lily Holshouser, Remington Zehme, and Madeline Zehme; sisters-in-law, Doris Luber and Betty Holshouser; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul Educational Foundation.
