  • Full Obituary

Mary A. Sanders, 88, of Collinsville, was born January 15, 1935 in Widner AR, to Mark Lena (nee Johnson) and Andrew Calvin Lindley.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2023, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Mary attended Lincoln High School in Forrest City, AR.  She had one child, Janice M. Lindley (Harold Worth), before meeting James E. Mann.  They married in January 1959 and they had two children, Stanley E. Mann and Gregory A. Mann.  James and Mary relocated to Lebanon, IL from Widner, AR in 1965.  They enjoyed 22 years of marriage together before his death in 1981.

Mary enjoyed her career as a Nurse’s Aide; initially employed at Colonial Manor, in O’Fallon, IL.  She was very passionate about her job as a Nurse’s Aide, so much so, her daughter Janice use to tease her, nicknaming her “Nurse Betty”, since She could give you the facts of certain medications and illnesses. After James passing, she relocated to Belleville, IL, where she then began working at St. Paul Nursing Home in Belleville, and stayed there until her retirement.  Mary remarried Charles Sanders, until he passed.

Mount Olive Baptist Church was the first church that the Mann family attended upon relocating to Lebanon, IL.  Upon her move, Mary then found the One Way Church of Christ of the Apostolic Faith in E. St. Louis, where she was a faithful member until her passing.

Mary always kept a smile on her face, and treated people with love, kindness and respect.  She was a great cook and shared it with many friends; her specialties being her Mustard Greens and her Sweet Potato Pies.

She is survived by her children, Janice M. Hayes, Gregory A. (Kathi) Mann; sister, Ernestine McFadden; three grandchildren; four bonus grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two bonus great grandchildren; four nieces and 12 nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Stanley E. Mann; sister, Beatrice Duff; brothers, Andrew C. (June) Lindley, Aaron “Buddy” Lindley.
