Mark S. Graham, 51, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023, at his home.
He was born on November 1, 1971, in Belleville, IL, to Larry and Cathy (nee Divine) Graham.
Mark has lived in the Madison County area his whole life. He moved to Granite City with his family at the age of 15 and graduated from Granite City High School in 1989. Mark served in the United States Army from 1991 to 1994. In the military, he was trained in diesel mechanics. As a civilian, he was a handyman, jack of all trades, and a very skilled laborer; there wasn’t anything he didn’t know how to fix. He was a fan of NASCAR, the St. Louis Blues, and the Colorado Avalanche team.
In his free time, Mark enjoyed watching various movies such as the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter series, as well as war movies and documentaries. One of his greatest joys, which was a tradition carried down through six generations of his family, was spending time at the clubhouse on the river near Grafton, IL.
Mark could be hardheaded and stubborn, but he was dependable and selflessly devoted to his family. He was a proud father and grandfather. Although he and technology didn’t get along, he would regularly play video games with his son Dustin. Always willing to help you, he would give you the shirt off of his back. He took care of his parents, protected his little sisters, and was an amazing son, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Graham.
Mark is survived by his parents, Larry and Cathy Graham; children, Kara (Tyler Allen) McSpadden, Joshua Steven (Rachel Ward) Graham, Dustin (Gabrielle Carter) Graham; grandchildren, Robin McSpadden, A.J. McSpadden, Malkom Allen, Mitchell Graham, Michael Graham, Julian Graham, Layla Carter, Audrey Carter; brother, Jeffrey (Tracey) Graham; sister, Tonia (Dave Scott) Nelson; best friend, Brett Winfield; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the John J. Cochran Veterans Hospital.
