Marcia Lee Taveggia, 76, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Edwardsville Care Center in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Marcia was born July 1, 1946, to Henry and Thelda (née Dickerson) Taveggia at Saint Mary’s Hospital in East St. Louis, Illinois. Marcia grew up in Collinsville, attended and graduated in 1964 from Collinsville High School. She enlisted that same year in the United States Navy. She was stationed and worked in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. before transferring to North Island Naval Base in San Diego, California. Marcia always said, “the days living in California were some of the best of her life.”  She was so proud to serve her country.

In civilian life Marcia worked as a rate clerk for and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. She developed many lifelong and treasured friendships there.

In 1997, Marcia met the love of her life Jerone Farrow.  They married and enjoyed almost 20 years together until Jerone passed in 2016. Marcia and Jerone both loved animals and adopted many dogs and cats through the years and supported many animal rescue organizations.

Marcia had a quick wit, a tender heart and an acute sense of injustice and enjoyed many political debates with family and friends. Above all else, she loved laughing and spending time with her sisters, Faye, Leni and Jeannie. She was an amazing woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but especially by her surviving sisters, Faye and Leni.

Marcia is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Thelda Taveggia; loving wife, Jerone Farrow-Taveggia; and sister, Jeannie Taveggia.

She is survived by her sister, Lenise Works (Don); her sister, Faye Taveggia; nephew, Anthony Viviano (Kris); and great-nephew, Trenten Viviano.

Memorials may be made to the Metro East Humane Society.

Marcia, I loved you like a sister and I will miss you so much. We have been through so much together at the railroad and after, I will always think of you on July 1 because you were always older than me on that date.
