Loretta T. Marti, 88, of Highland, IL, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at Addington Place in Edwardsville, IL, surrounded by her family.

Loretta was born on August 6, 1934, to William and Theresa (nee Strubhart) Hess in Highland, IL. On May 2, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart Robert L. “Bob” Marti at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL.

Loretta lived nearly 80 years in her childhood home in Highland, where she raised her family and enjoyed life as a homemaker. Loretta attended St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, and was a member of the St. Ann Alter Society. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked part time with her husband in the family business, Robert Marti CPA.

Loretta and Bob enjoyed playing cards with their family and bowling. They spent many years bowling together on a local couples’ league. She had a natural “green thumb” and loved to tend her garden and berry patch. She enjoyed baking apple pies, reading (and in her later years most especially to her grandchildren), doing crewel embroidery, and you could often find her bird watching and appreciating nature.

She was attentive to details when it came to planning family vacations and family holidays, always wanting to make them very special. Loretta was patient, a good listener, self-sacrificing, family oriented, and always willing to help. More than anything, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Marti; parents, William and Theresa Hess; siblings, Esther Marie (Dave) Reddinger, Louis William (Jeanette) Hess, Marcella Margaret (Robert) Widlund, Lawrence Mathias “Larry” (MaryAnn) Hess, Anthony Francis “Red” (Laura) Hess, Paul August (Sally) Hess; brothers-in-law, Earl (Irma) Marti, Richard (Dorothy) Marti, Roy Marti; and sister-in-law, Pearl (Elmer) Ammann.

Loretta is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ann Hawkes, Teresa Lynn “Terri” (Thomas) Hoffmann, Sandra Kay “Sandy” Poor; grandchildren, Melanie Christine (David) Georges, Michelle Renee Hawkes, Joseph Nathan Hawkes, Nicholaus Robert (Hannah) Hoffmann, Natalie Teresa (Jason) Bergkoetter, Andrea Lynn (Joe) Garson, Vanessa Julia Hoffmann, Benjamin Robert Poor; great grandchildren, Hawk, Vas, Falen, Olivia, Cole, Vaeden, Toby, Samantha, Lillian, Emilee, Macey, Trenton, Lukas, Leah, Logan; siblings, Dorothy Ann (John) Tanner, Alvin John (Joann) Hess; brother-in-law, Joseph “Joe” (Carol Ann) Marti; sisters-in-law Bernice (Gene) Remmert, Leona Marti; many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Alzheimer’s Association, St. Paul Capital Campaign, Latzer Memorial Public Library, or in the form of Masses.
