      Family requests causal dress in honor of Lodema

      Lodema A. (Grove) States (70) passed away at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Hillsboro Area Hospital.  She was formerly from the Cisne area.

       

      Lodema was a retired school teacher whose 34-year career spanned teaching Home Economics and elementary grades 3 and 5 in Hillsboro.

       

      Lodema was born at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on March 19, 1950.  She was the daughter of Pearlie and Agnes (Turner) Grove.  She earned degrees at Olney Central College and Southern Illinois University.  Lodema was an avid quilter and taught quilting to many in the local community through Illinois Extension and served as an advisor for FHA.

       

      She married Bill States on June 3, 1972 in Cisne, IL.  Together, they are the parents of a daughter Annette (Ryan) Vaughan of Hudson, IL; a son Doug (Kristin) States of Geneseo, IL; and four grandchildren Andrew and Evelyn (Annette); Allison and Eric (Doug).

      Preceding her in death are her parents.  In addition to her husband and children, Lodema is also survived by her brother Aubrey Grove of Geneseo, IL.

       

      Lodema leaves a legacy of a family who was deeply loved, former students who learned to dot their I's and cross their T's; and many, many quilts.

       

      Graveside services will be held at the Cisne Cemetery Friday July, 17 2020 at 11:30. The family ask that you please dress casual in honor of Lodema.  Please go directly to the cemetery.

       

      Memorial donations may be given to the Cisne Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or may mailed to Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home at PO Box 418 Cisne, Illinois 62823.

      Mrs. States was my 3rd Grade Teacher at Beckemeyer in Hillsboro, and she is the teacher who taught me how to be a good Student. I didnt appreciate it at the time, but I learned and know now that she was a wonderful teacher and lady.
      She will be missed and my condolences go out to Mr. States, who was my 4th grade teacher at Beckemeyer.

      To Bill and family: I was so sorry to hear of Lodema’s passing. She was a good friend to my parents, Harry & Bea Wallace, along with being a concerned neighbor to mom in her later years. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
