    • Full Obituary

Lillian Marie Rommersckirchen Wehrle, 97, of Salisbury, NC, passed away January 16, 2022, at Northeast Hospital in Kannapolis, NC.

She was born December 16, 1924, in Pocahontas, IL to Herman and Lililan (nee Minerva) Rommerskirchen, the eighth of eleven children.  She married Earl H. “Butch” Wehrle.

She was an active member of Franklin Presbyterian Church, Woodleaf Recreational Bowling League, and Rufty-Holmes Bingo. She enjoyed all kinds of games including dominos, cards, and board games and loved teaching them to family and friends. She regularly went to Friday dinner and card playing with her Ladies Church group. She was always very competitive, and we often accused her of cheating because of how good she was and how often she would win.

She was fiercely independent and drove herself to weekly hair appointments, bowling, bingo and cards. She loved staying active, spending time with her family and friends, and was quick with a smile, laugh and lively conversation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Earl H “Butch” Wehrle; and nine of her siblings.

Lillian is survived by her brother, Walter ‘Romy’ Romerskirchen of Danville, Ill.; daughter Karen Sue Wehrle Pickett, (husband Tom Pickett) of Salisbury, NC; grandson Mark Pickett, (wife Farrah Pickett) of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Susan Pickett Drye of Kannapolis; and great grandchildren Ryne, Reagan, and Brooklyn Drye of Kannapolis, NC and Caroline and Megan Pickett of Raleigh, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Franklin Presbyterian Church, 280 Frankllin Church Dr., Salisbury, NC 28147.

A memorial service will be held on January 22, 2022 in North Carolina.  Lillian will be interred next to her beloved husband, Butch, at Hug Cemetery in Pocahontas, IL.
