- Full Obituary
Lawrence Bennett Wendling, 77, peacefully went home to the Lord on April 14, 2023, at Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida.
Larry was born in Elgin, Illinois, on July 17, 1945, the son of Ernest and Charlotte Wendling. Larry married Donna Jean McCracken of Cisne, Illinois, on July 18, 1970. To this union were born two children, Keri Lynn, and David Lawrence. Larry and Donna enjoyed living and raising their children in Elgin, Illinois, until Donna’s death in 2002. One of Larry’s greatest joys was raising his children and watching them turn into wonderful, loving parents and faithful servants of God.
Larry enjoyed a long and successful career with Cotter and Company in Chicago as Building Materials Manager. Larry was active in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elgin, serving as youth group leader, church council member, and many other leadership roles.
In 2007 Larry married Betty Adkisson (formerly Taylor), originally from Mt. Erie, Illinois. Larry and Betty lived in Gillette, Wyoming, most of their married life, where Larry again served actively in various roles at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. After retirement, they became full-time RVers and enjoyed traveling around the country until finally settling in Fort Myers, Florida.
Surviving is his wife Betty, children Keri Lynn (Ken) Van Zee of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; David Lawrence (Karrie) of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and Nicholas Adam (Arkay) Adkisson of Webster Groves, Missouri; grandchildren Jaret, Isaac and Meiling Van Zee, Ben and Natalie Wendling, and Maura O’Malley, Miette Adkisson and Freya Adkisson of Webster Groves, Missouri.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna Jean, and granddaughter Vivian.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Hosselton Meridith Funeral Home in Cisne, Illinois, 9-11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Fairfield, Illinois.
Memorials may be given to Mt. Erie Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
