  • Full Obituary

Lawrence Dickerson, 92, of Desoto, MO, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson, in Festus MO.

He was born February 12, 1930, to James Louis and Talitha Ann (nee Meadows) Dickerson, in Collinsville, IL.  He graduated from Collinsville High School in 1948 and married the love of his life, Joan Cecil in 1950.

Lawrence attended SIUE, LCCC, FUCC colleges and finished at Lutheran Concordia Seminary.  He also graduated from Molar College.  He worked as a hairdresser manager and operator in unisex hair salons.  Lawrence was also an interpreter of sign language and was certified and licensed in the state of IL for 25 years.  He interpreted church services on television for two years and played piano and the organ for several churches where he loved “jazzing up” the old hymns.  He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Desoto, MO.  Lawrence was a very artistic man who loved music, drawing, and painting and left a beautiful impression on the lives of all who knew him.

Each year he took his daughters and sister-in-law, Betty, to Branson where they terrorized the town.  Yes, he got on all the rides at Silver Dollar City, and even zip-lined at the age of 89!  That was a 3-in-1 deal; first, last, and only time for that one.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Talitha Dickerson; sisters, Thelda Taveggia, Faye Polleck; brother, Donald Dickerson; son, Michael Dickerson; twin granddaughters Terri and Sherri; sister-in-law, Betty Dickerson; niece, Jeannie Taveggia; son-in-law, Danny Steward.

Lawrence is survived by his daughters, Laura (Gary) Steward, Susan Steward, Lisa (John) Rosen; brother, Leonard Dickerson; daughter-in-law, Debbie Dickerson-Proehl; 42 grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Assembly of God Church in Desoto, MO; or St. Jude’s Hospital for children.

I don’t know that I can count the number of good memories I have of Lawrence. He always had a smile on his face and made everyone around him happy.

There was no better person than Lawrence. I will truly miss him and his laugh.

I’ll also miss him calling me on my birthday, singing Happy Birthday to me, then hanging up.
