Lavern O. Hagler, 92, of Greenville, IL, passed away, Friday, May 20, 2022, at his home.

Lavern was born September 13, 1929, to Otto R. and Minnie (nee Wafflard) Hagler, in Pocahontas, IL.  He married Betty Jean McCasland on March 21, 1951, in Pocahontas, IL, and they were married 69 wonderful years at the time of her passing.

Lavern graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1947. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War. Lavern was a member of the Pocahontas First Baptist Church and the Gordon Masonic Lodge.  He was Pocahontas Mayor from 1963-1977, while also serving as Bond County Sheriff from 1962-1966; Lavern was a huge part of his community.  He worked for the Illinois Power Co. for over 20 years as a meter reader

A true handyman, Lavern crafted five large model planes, built his own fishing boat and remodeled houses. He was very smart, quite resourceful, and quiet.  Lavern would do anything he could for anyone in need.  He and Betty always looked forward to their “Florida winters”, and trips to Branson each year.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Minnie Hagler; wife, Betty Jean Hagler; son, David Hagler; niece, Cindy Milos; sister-in-law, Delores “Skip” Lutz.

Lavern is survived by his brother-in-law, John (Lois) McCasland, Greenville, IL; nephew, Randy Lutz, Greenville, IL; niece, Debra (Frank) Helige, Greenville, IL; many dear friends, family, and caregivers.

Memorials may be made to Bond County Hospice.
