      Lana J. (nee Dyer) Dowdy, 70, of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her family.

      Lana was born February 6, 1950, to John and Lorraine (nee James) Dyer, in E. St. Louis, IL. On September 26, 1981, she married Tom Dowdy in St. Louis, MO.

      She was a member of the Southern Baptist Church, Highland, IL. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and for the Food Pantry. Many years ago, while in Florida, she started a food pantry in her church. She would give the shirt off her back or shoes on her feet to a stranger. Lana loved her family, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. She also loved her dogs.

      She is survived by her husband, Tom Dowdy, Highland, IL; sons, Brandon E. (Rhonda) Dowdy, Naples, FL, and Thomas Mark (Darlene) Dowdy, Lake of the Ozarks, MO; grandson, Chase Dowdy; brother, Rick Dyer, Yucca Valley, CA; sisters, Donna (Gary) Horstmann, Highland, IL, and Janice (John) Mollett, Troy, IL, several nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lorraine Dyer; brother, Kevin Dyer; brother-in-law, Donald Krankel; sister-in-law, Georgiana Dyer.

      No services are scheduled at this time.

      Love ones so sad to hear of our sweet cousin passing on to heaven. God is so good even in the sad times. May you all find comfort in the sweet remembrances of Lana.

      We are so very sorry to hear that Lana has passed away. I knew her mostly from the time she worked at our church as secretary. A sweeter, harder-working, more generous person would be hard to find. Heaven’s gain is our loss. All her friends and family have our deepest sympathy.
