      Karen Jo Shehorn, 85, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at her residence in Xenia, IL. with her loving husband by her side.

      Karen Jo was born on November 24, 1938, in Cisne, IL. to Robert and Agnes (Case) Johnston. She married Gary Shehorn on August 5, 1972, in Cisne, IL. They shared fifty-one years of marriage together.

      Karen received her master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. She then began her career as a physical education teacher at Newton High School from 1961-1964, she briefly taught at Mascoutah Jr. High and then in 1964 she went to Granite City High School and taught physical education there until she retired in 2015. Karen was always continually active, after her retirement she went to work at Main Street Gym in Fairfield, IL.

      Karen is survived by her husband Garry Shehorn.

      Preceding her in death were her mother and father, a brother Dickie Gail Johnston and nephew Jimmie Jay (Johnston) McCleskey.

      A private burial will be held later.
