    June Mewes passed away on August 9, 2024, at Newburgh, Indiana. Glenna June Gray Mewes was born on June 7, 1937 to James Chet and Mildred Edge Gray in Edwards County, Illinois. She married Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Mewes on February 27, 1955, at the E.U.B. Church in West Salem, Illinois.

    June was a devoted mother to four children, and worked alongside her family on their farm before she and Kenny retired in 2001. She was active in the West Salem Zion Church: teaching generations of young children at Sunday School, helped with their food pantry, and with funeral dinners. June received the Joann Wiseman Methodist Woman of the Year Award in 2019. June helped with the Bone Gap Chowder. June was active in Edwards County Home Extension. She worked at Albion flower shops, Painter & Franklin, Kid Stuff and Great Stuff. June enjoyed creating porcelain dolls, selling them at craft shows and giving many away. She was dedicated to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In recent years, June and Kenny enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and traveling across the area to all their sports and other activities.

    June is survived by her daughter, Susan (Randy) Cox Cookeville Tennessee; sons: Chris (Carey) Mewes, Owensboro Kentucky and Brian (Jamie) Mewes, Albion, Illinois; grandchildren: Audrey Kocher (Wayne), Sarah Mitchell (Bryce), Kyle and Blake Mewes, Nathan, Katie, and Logan Mewes; great grandchildren: Riley and Brody Lynn and Kendra Sager (Devon), Colin, Caden, and Kerigan Kocher and Dawson Mitchell; and siblings, Jean Legrande, Linda Kelsey, and Jack Gray; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her oldest son Larry, parents, and husband, Kenneth.

    Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at West Salem Zion Church on August 15, 2024, in West Salem, Illinois. Funeral will be held on August 16, 2024, at West Salem Zion Church at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at West Salem Zion Church Cemetery in West Salem, Illinois.

    Memorials can be made to the West Salem Zion Church, West Salem, Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the visitation and funeral.

    Ingram-Meridith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    I remember when I just a little girl before I was even adopted into the family and I remember her smiling and making me feel so welcomed and I remember I told her I loved horses and I rode a horse for the very first time. She was such a sweet and compassionate person I’m so honored I got to know her!

    My prayers go out to her family for June was a wonderful lady and a good friend. I have wonderful memories of working with her at the flower shop. She will be missed, I can still her her saying see you tomorrow Lord willing and the creek don’t rise .
