      Judith A. “Judy” Peters, 81, of Lebanon, IL, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, on hospice at Aviston Countryside Manor.

      She was born on February 10, 1944, the youngest child of Joseph and Alice (nee Steiner) Vunetich, in East St. Louis, IL. Judy grew up in O’Fallon, IL, and on April 4, 1965, she married James “Jim” Peters at St. Clare Catholic Church in O’Fallon, IL, later making their home in Lebanon, IL.

      Judy was a longtime civil service worker at Scott Air Force Base. She was also a member of the PTO and volunteered at the Lebanon Grade School, later working in the school office. Judy was a founding member of the Lebanon Lioness Club. She was a quiet person, a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Judy enjoyed taking family vacations every year while her children were growing up and later loved looking after her grandchildren.

      She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Alice Vunetich; husband of 54 years, Jim Peters; sisters, Rosemary Icide, Edna Pococa, and Fran Johnson; brothers, Joseph Vunetich, Charles Vunetich, John Vunetich, and Raymond Vunetich.

      Judy is survived by her children, Diana (Bruce) Faris, Oklahoma City, OK, and Steve (Gayla) Peters, Lebanon, IL; grandchildren, Alysha (Cliff Braxton) Higgins, Pauls Valley, OK, Cassidy (Matthew) Shiplett, El Reno, OK, Evan Faris, Oklahoma City, OK, Madison (Justin) Nicholson, Lebanon, IL, and Gavin Peters, Lebanon, IL; great grandchildren, Addilynn Higgins and Eleanor Faris; sister, Josephine Goodman, Springfield, IL; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

      A special thanks to the care team at Aviston Countryside Manor.

      Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern, IL, or American Cancer Society.
