      John David Montayne, 66, of Highland, IL, died on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL.  Born in Manhattan, New York City on January 25, 1947, he was the son of John and Irene (Galey) Montayne.  John married Linda Hicks on April 26, 1991, in Edwardsville, IL, and she survives.  He graduated in 1964 from Charles Evans Hughes High School in Manhattan, NYC.  He served in the Marines from 1964 – 1969.  John attended Hofstra University and Nassau Community College and previously worked for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation and various electronic companies.  He was a unique and eccentric man with a great creative mind.  His interests ranged from building the household computers, to writing software programs for personal use, to restoring vintage folding cameras and Kodak Signet 35’s, to building furniture, to baking, and gardening.  John was an avid exerciser and could often be found around town walking, jogging, skateboarding, bicycling and doing Tai Chi and Qigong.  John was an avid animal lover, which even extended to insects.  He was a devoted and loving husband and father.  He treated his wife like a queen and his daughter like a princess.  Survivors include his wife, Linda; his daughter, Amanda (special friend, Chris Wessel); several sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-laws; and his practically second daughter, Katie Horrell.  Preceding him in death are his parents, John and Irene Montayne; his sister, Joanne Andreu; step-daughter, Jennifer Hicks.  Memorials are suggested to the family.
