      Jerry Warren Schmittler, 81, of Albion, IL passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at his daughter’s residence in Fairfield, IL.  He was born on July 19, 1942, in Albion, IL, the son of Robert Schmittler and Nellie (Balding) Penrod.

      Jerry served in the Army during the Vietnam War.  He was an oilfield worker for many years.  Jerry loved spending time outside and was constantly reengineering things to work to his liking.  He was adored by his grandchildren and will be dearly missed.

      He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Penrod; father, Robert Schmittler; brother, Harlan Schmittler; brother, Bobby Schmittler; sister, Melva Legg; and brother, Charles Penrod.

      Jerry is survived by wife, Jeanie (Provine) Schmittler of Albion, IL; daughter, Jerri (Chris) Ballard of Fairfield, IL; son, Brian (Brenda) Powell of West Salem, IL; grandchildren, Sophia, Bella, and Zion Ballard.

      Memorial donations may be made to the Albion Fire Department.

      Private services with military rites will be held at a later date with interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
