Jerry W. Smith, 84, of Cisne, IL passed away Monday, June 5, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Unit. Jerry was born July 6th, 1938, in Flora, IL to Ralph and Rosetta Smith. Jerry married Lynda Kay Gorrell on Easter Sunday April 1, 1956, at the bride’s mothers’ home in Flora, IL.
Jerry worked at the International Shoe Factory from 1955-1976 when the factory closed. While working at the shoe factory Jerry helped his uncle on his farm. After the factory closed, Jerry decided to start farming for himself. Jerry excelled in carpentry and mechanics. He was always willing to lend a hand to help family and friends alike.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 67 years, Kay; three children Rick (Verna) Smith of Cisne, IL, Diana (Jeff) Ropp of Iuka, IL, and Gary (Stacey) Smith of Campbell Hill, IL; five grandchildren Brandon Smith of Flora, IL, Jarrod (Ashley) Ropp of Kansas City, MO, Kelsey Ropp of Cisne, IL, Lexi Smith of Campbell Hill, IL, and Jesse Smith of Campbell Hill, IL. He is also survived by eight great grandchildren; one brother, Don (Mary) Smith of Flora, IL, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Everett and Jackie, and one grandson, Bradley Smith.
Visitation: Saturday, June 10, 2023, 10:00am to 12:00pm at Hosselton Meridith-Funeral Home Cisne, IL.
Funeral Services: Saturday, June 10, 2023, 12:00 pm (noon) at Hosselton-Meridith Funeral Home Cisne, IL.
Burial: Cisne Cemetery, Cisne, IL.
Memorials may be given to Blue Point Free Will Baptist Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
