  • Full Obituary

Jeanette Ann Dietz (nee Tichy) born on May 22, 1937, in Bertha, MN, passed away on October 28, 2023. Currently a resident of Fairview Heights, IL, Jeanette grew up in central Minnesota where she spent many days playing and caring for her siblings, sewing with her mom, cooking for her dad and was known as a gentle, loving child. She married the love of her life Charles Dietz in Minnesota on November 5, 1955, and shortly after moved to southern Illinois, where they lived many years in Lebanon. Jeanette worked with her husband to support a farm for more than 25 years where she enjoyed driving her Ford tractor, gathering with friends, and building their family. After moving to Fairview Heights, she worked for Southview Foods as a cashier. Throughout her life she took a great deal of delight in quilting, sewing, playing cards, dancing, painting, canning, cooking, and teaching her kids and grandkids how to do everything.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Dietz and parents Frank and Beatrice Tichy (nee. Grossman), twin brother Eugene (Carolyn) Tichy, Brother Roger (Jody) Tichy, Brother-in-Law Gorden Lucas, Mother and Father-in-Law Ferd and Anna Dietz, Brother-in-Law Robert (Sharon) Dietz, Brother-in-Law John Dietz, Brother-in-Law Paul Dietz, and daughter-in-law Diane Dietz.

She is survived by three children, Pamela (Don) Schmidt of Collinsville, IL; Rodney (Valerie) Dietz of O’Fallon, IL; and Kurt (widower of the late Diane) Dietz of Lebanon, IL; two sisters Sandy (Norbert) Krier of Hibbing, MN, Gail (Dave Brazier) Lucas of Keewatin, MN, and two sister-in laws Mary Jane Dietz and Mary Jean Dietz. Jeanette was the best grandma to her grandchildren Tim (Ann) Schmidt, Betsy (BJ) Bovee, Jennifer Kraemer, Nick (Terese) Schmitt, Matt Dietz, Chris (Dominque) Dietz, Tina (Brian) Behlke, and Natasha Schildroth as well as 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanette’s life was centered around her family. From her early years to the very end of her life, her family was at the forefront of her being. And now it’s her family that will carry on her love and traditions for the next generation to enjoy.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Lebanon, IL, or Siteman Cancer Center.

One Condolence

  1. Mike Bouquet / November 2, 2023 at 2:49 pm

My deepest condolences to Pam, Don and the entire family. Jeanette was one for the ages — extraordinarily practical and sharp-witted — she used her experience and instinct to help make us all better as a whole. I hope the entire family can take comfort in knowing the contributions she has made to her family, friends and society have enhanced our collective well-being — and in knowing that she lived a most fruitful and productive life with earnest purpose. Indeed, God knows… and will judge favorably… RIP Jeanette…
