    Janet Kleinmann, 79, of Highland, IL, died Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL, with her family by her side.

    Janet was born July 9, 1939, to Arthur and Tillie (nee Zobrist) Oswald in Highland IL, where she lived her entire life. On August 26, 1967, she married Robert D. Kleinmann in Highland, IL.

    Janet was a devoted wife and mother, and her grandchildren brought great joy to her life.  She loved cooking, and socializing with friends and family.  Janet enjoyed life to the fullest.  She never met a stranger and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.

    She worked at Alton Box Board, Highland Elementary School cafeteria and then went on to work at SIUE until retiring.  After retirement, she enjoyed life in Highland and at the Lake of the Ozarks with Bob and her family.  She continued volunteering at the VFW in Highland and at Faith Countryside.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Tillie Oswald; husband, Robert D. Kleinmann; brother, Darwin Oswald; sister-in-law, Pat Oswald; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Stella Kleinmann.

    She is survived by her children, Randy (Ann) Kleinmann, Highland, IL, Maria (fiancé Mark Geppert) Marsh, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Matthew and Meridith Kleinmann, Ben and Wil Marsh; sisters-in-law, Betty (Bill) Green, Jasper, AL, Audrey (Rich) Lehmkuhl, Theodosia, MO; three nieces; six nephews and an amazing group of friends that were as close to family as you can get.

    Visitation: Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm and Sunday, October 7, 2018, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Funeral Service: Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 3:00 pm, Meridith Funeral Home, Highland, IL.

    Clergy: Rev. Will VerDuin, Associate Pastor, Evangelical United Church of Christ, Highland, IL.

    Interment: Highland City Cemetery.

    Janet,
    You will be greatly missed for sure. Your smile lit up a room and you always had a way of finding humor no matter what. My mom is going to miss you, The old neighborhood surely won’t be the same without you.
    Thank you for all the great cherished memories and joy you brought. I know God had a plan and he needed someone just like you in heaven and he called you home so you could be pain free, and I know in my heart Bob was there waiting for you with open arms. May you rest peacefully and keep a close watch over everyone.

    Randy and Maria,
    This is such a shock. Your Mom was such a fun loving and wonderful person. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you and your families. I’m in Florida and regrettably will not make it to the funeral. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

    I worked with your mom in the cafeteria in the mid 1980s. She was so much fun. May you have peace knowing everyone enjoyed being around her. Thoughts and prayers for your family.
