    James “Jim” Witte, 79, of rural West Salem, IL passed from this life to the next on November 21, 2019 at Oakview Heights in Mt. Carmel, IL.

    He was born December 30, 1939 in West Salem to Blanche (Luthe) and Marshall Witte. He married Patsy Bowen on June 6, 1959 at Marion Christian Church and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2011.

    Jim was a farmer and loved to farm. He took great joy in watching his grandkids play ball. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church and served as an Elder at Marion Christian Church for many years. He and his wife Patsy were 4-H leaders for several years, and he served on the Edwards County Fair Board.

    He is survived by one daughter: Charlotte (Roger) Shelby of Albion; three sons: James Jr. (Deanna) Witte of West Salem, Chris (Julie) Witte of Owensville, IN, and Russell (Kristie) Witte of Marseilles, IL; two sisters: Margaret (James) Owens of Missouri City, TX and Jean (Donnie) Bowen of West Salem; nine grandchildren: Amanda (Shaun) Phillips, Adrienne (Brian) Schuh, Miranda (Jeff) Feldman, James Witte III, Rees Shelby, Dawson and Davina Witte, and Bailey and Damon Witte; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are special friends, Kent, Michelle, and Faith Fields.

    Jim was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, his parents, twin daughters, and one grandson, Eric Wampler.

    Visitation will be held Monday, November 25, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Zion United Methodist Church in West Salem. The funeral service will be Tuesday, November 26 at 10 a.m. at the church with burial to follow in Marion Cemetery.

    Jim will be dressed in his overalls, and family and friends are encouraged to dress casually.

    Memorials may be made to the Marion Christian Church Cemetery Fund, and envelopes will be available at the service.
